Baby Holly ``talking'' to her Uncle Rick while on holiday in Melbourne last week.

This week I’m grateful for:

  • Hearing Baby Holly say her first words, including “bubba’’ and… “dada’’. Hmmm… Not so grateful for that last bit. After all that hard work trying to get her to say “mum’’ and that’s how she repays me. Not to mention wiping bottoms, feeding tummies and singing lullabies. We’re now not on speaking terms. Which defeats the purpose of her learning to talk really.
  • My Twitter friends, who last night helped my new PR business Mum PR reach 120+ @MumPR followers in a matter of hours. That blows me away. Thank you to each and every one of you. Now to work on building upon my 14 Mum PR Facebook friends.
  • My first pair of big nanna knickers. I think it’s time to pack away the cute hipsters and invest in some full-support beige-coloured nanna undies. Or as my late Nan used to call them, her “footy shorts’’. Although, I really doubt any footballer has ever worn shorts that big. No offence, Nan.

I’m joining with  Maxabella Loves to share what I’m grateful for. Don’t forget to enter our giveaway of two nights in a one-bedroom Medina apartment (valued at $1000).

  1. Maxabella says:

Ah, the old ‘dadda’. I think I read somewhere once (or maybe my sister, the linguist) told me, that ‘da da’ is the first and ‘mum’ the second sound any baby makes in any language, which is sort of why the word for ‘dad’ and ‘mum’ are so similiar in so many cultures. I think we women were just very, very kind once upon a time to say ‘listen, she’s saying your name’ when da da came out first!!

    • Kel says:

That’s really interesting, Maxabella. I can see why we women finally decided to stand up and put ourselves first!! Some how I managed to get our oldest to say “mama” first. Just wish I could figure out how I did that… 🙂

  2. Caz says:

Nanna knickers!! Now that’s something to be grateful for Kellie – fabulous stuff. Congrats on the fast growing sucess of MumPR – well done you – I”m sure they’ll be much more sucess coming too. And yay for Holly starting to talk – I love those first babble words – truly beautiful.

    • Kel says:

Thanks, Caz. Mum PR has been a lot of work (and there’s still lots to do to get it fully up and running), but it’s been fun. Plus, I’m meeting lots of lovely new people.
And oh, if only I’d discovered nanna knickers earlier! They make wearing a pair of jeans so much comfier!

  3. Yep “Dad dad” was my boy’s first words as well..although now he’s saying “Mum Mum” and ” Jump – a – Jump – a Jump” and “Peekaboo”.
Needless to say I think he’s a genius and I’m looking into placing him in some advanced baby studies.
Not to mention he is really, really, ridiculously good looking.
    Not that I’m biased 😉

    • Kel says:

Of course, he got the smart and good looking genes from his mum, right? If I had a genius on my hands, she would have fully understood how important it is to say “mum mum” first!! 😉

  4. Maxabella says:

I already checked you out before you linked up… but I did forget to say “how gorgeous is that photo!” A keeper! x

  5. Sally says:

Beautiful photo!!!!! No matter what her first sounds are, you know her heart belongs to Mumma.
My son said ‘Dadda’ first…but both of my girls said ‘Mumma’, I swear!! (It was my uterus, so if I say it was mumma, then it was mumma!!!)
    Gorgeous blog xxxx

    • Kel says:

Thanks, Sally. Yes, the eldest daughter was smart enough to say “mama’ first. I think Holly may well be daddy’s little girl. Either that, or he did some major brainwashing while he was on holidays!! 🙂

  6. Footy Shorts, hey?! Very funny. Nothing like a comfy pair of Nanna Knickers – whether you love them or hate them

Congrats on your bub’s first words…here’s hoping Mumma is next on her list

    Gill xo

    • Kel says:

Thanks, Gill! She put her lips together tonight and I swore she was going to say “mum”, but alas, no!! 😉
Yes, gotta love the footy shorts! It’s comfort over sexiness these days!

  7. Mandy Ferry says:

I’m waiting waiting. My son of course can say Daddy, infact I’m sure he calls everyone that at the mo.

  8. Renee says:

Snap – my two girls both said Dadda first – I assert this was because I was always talking about Daddy doing this, coming home soon etc etc. Plus I think it’s just easier to say. They then went through a patch when they only said Mumma – so just hang out for that!

    • Kel says:

Oooh, that’s promising, Renee. For the moment, I’m using it to my advantage. When she sings out “da da” during the night, I’m quick to point out she’s asking for him, not me!! LOL! 🙂

  9. Bronnie says:

Yeah, I read something about babies being able to say dada easier than mumma. My son’s first word was dada, then day-day (for Daisy, our labrador), then Mumma. My daughter said Dada and Mumma practically on the same day …I must say that photo is adorable!

    • Kel says:

LOL! I love that the dog came second! Three-year-old Ella is working hard to make sure Holly’s next word is her name… We’ll see about that! 🙂

  10. bonds do some very funky nana knickers – absolutley no excuse for beige footy shorts – u can do soooo much better 🙂
Oh and Meerkat chose to save ‘mum’ until well after it stopped being funny that she only said ‘dad’ (grrrrr)
    have a great weekend
    xxxCate

    • Kel says:

Ooh, thanks for the Bonds knickers tip. I LOVE their hipsters. 😉
And fingers crossed I’m not waiting too long for a “mum mum”! I’m not holding out too much hope. She’s quite content with “da da” and “bub bub” right now!

  11. Kirrily says:

Awww that is a very sweet photo! Embrace the nanna knickers. Far comfier in your time of need *wise tap to nose* and they can always be put away again in future when you get around to it hey!

    • Kel says:

Yes, too true. Once I can find the energy to do sit ups, then I’ll be definitely packing away the footy shorts! Maybe I’m watching too many infomercials, but those Ab Circle Pros are looking rather enticing!!! 🙂

  12. Kasia says:

Lovely list!! I think I waited about 2 months to get mumma after dadadada..
But she did say it to me the dirst time on my birthday 🙂
    Xx

    • Kel says:

Oh, what a nice day for her to finally say it. That’s a lovely memory to have. My birthday’s in December, so fingers crossed I don’t have to wait that long… LOL! 🙂

  13. Lovely photo..cute uncle too! I hope you’re not putting away the hip hipsters forever..that would be a bit sad..you don’t seem old enough for that. Don’t worry actions speak louder than words and I’m sure she’ll just be loving your cuddles the most for a while!

    • Kel says:

LOL! He’ll be blushing at that comment, Carol!! 😉
And yes, cuddles and feeds with mum just don’t compare – especially when you’re a breastfeeding mum! 🙂

  14. Aww, I love first words. Kahlei was quite stubborn about saying mum – it took FOREVER!

    • Kel says:

I’m working overtime on the “mum mum”s at the moment. However, all I get back is her laughing at me!!! 🙂
