TODAY is a social media-free day. Well, for me, at least. I’m asking in the headline: could you do it? But let’s be honest here, it’s probably more accurate to ask: can I do it? Umm, maybe.
If you got here via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or my new Google+ account (yes, I was lucky enough to break past Google’s security guards) just know it was all prescheduled last night. I’m not cheating already, I promise. And you won’t find me lurking on Twitter to find out what you’re feeding your toddler for lunch today. That won’t be me. Promise.
If you tweet or Facebook me today, expect to receive a:

“Hi, you’ve reached the home of Kel, please leave a message and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible (aka in 24 hours). Alternatively, you can try me via the blog on www.threelilprincesses.com.’’

If you’re stil stuck back at the point about Google+ and wondering what the heck I’m talking about, here’s a snapshot of Google’s new social media site, Google+.

See, looks just like Facebook. In fact, it is just like Facebook, minus the games and with the addition of “circles’’. Although, can’t you create circles in Facebook too? The up-shot is, it’s easy to use. Unless I’m using it wrong and then chances are it’s very confusing.
Anyway, if you want me today, you’ll find me either via my bigpond, hotmail, threelilprincess or mumpr email accounts. Or in the comments section here. And if my typing looks a little off, it’s because I’ve likely got social media withdrawal shakes. Oh, and apparently there’s a thing called a telephone. I think they used to use it in the olden days. You can try that too.
Do you have social media free days? If not, how would you cope?

  1. When I’m on holiday no problem. At home, my mind always wonders to what manner of crap I will have to deal with, with a day long backlog.

    Love & stuff

LOL!! Too true, Maria. I just realised I get email notifications every time someone posts on my FB wall or tweets me, so I feel like I’m cheating a bit!! 🙂

Yay – you did it!! Well I guess you did I don’t really know because I’ve been at work myself. I think it’s a great idea. Imagine all the spare time you’ve had today!! What have you done??

    • Kel says:

LOL! Yes, I certainly did, Caz. The temptation tonight has been tough, but I’m staying strong. You know the first thing I’ll do in the morning though? hehe!
I got lots of bloggy writing done today, did some PR biz work and had fun crawling around on the floor with Baby Holly! Bliss!
Hope you had a good day at work too, Caz. I bet you’re enjoying having more adult conversations during your week.

Thanks for the heads up on Google +. Yet another thing to waste our precious time mastering! I hope you enjoyed your social networking free day. Perhaps it can become a weekly event?? x

    • Kel says:

Most definitely, MM. So far I’ve yet to see any spin off from it regarding the blog. Although, I realise it’s early days. Facebook is still the most effective traffic puller for me.
Considering the amount of work I got done yesterday, it will definitely become a weekly event. You don’t realise how much of your time it burns up until you don’t access it for a day! xx

    well done kel!
i just made it through a week and a half of no internet and it was tough. at the beginning more so but by the end i was pretty used to not haivng it and it has actually taken me a couple of days to get back into it! lol! plus having get through all my emails.
was kind of nice to rediscover other hobbies for that time, like cooking! oh but there was a lot of packing, moving and unpacking going on too!
    just posted about it http://becauseisaidso-rachel.blogspot.com/2011/07/my-blogging-hiatus.html

    • Kel says:

Wow, my measly one day looks a bit sad against your week and a half!!! Well done, Rachel. Great effort. It’s so true that after a while you don’t miss these things.
Off to read about your week! 🙂

  5. I have to. Sometimes I just need to draw back into myself and take some “quiet” time away from my computer. Sometimes I feel like social media has become a “job” so it’s something I “have” to do and I don’t want to feel like that so I step away for a while until I’m ready to return.

    • Kel says:

I totally relate to that, Bec. I think that goes for many things you enjoy. I’d like to have some time away from social media more regularly, as it did me the world of good in so many ways. Most of all because I was so much more productive! 😉

  6. Tat says:

I think I’ve lost my addiction. I went totally computer free for a few days last week and didn’t miss it one little bit.

    • Kel says:

Wow! That’s a huge effort for a blogger, Tat. Well done! I need to “escape” from it a bit more regularly, I think! Otherwise my reality starts to become a little warped! 🙂
