BEFORE kids I imagined motherhood would look something like this:

Yes, a serene setting, an irresistibly cute child, everyone in their place and my hair perfect.

However, I know the reality is this:

That’s right, the eldest child’s hair is scruffy, there’s a bassinette still not packed away, a doll’s cradle lying around, a bit of Weetbix on my shoulder, the *ahem* same top I was wearing two years ago, a baby pulling at my once-perfect hair and I think there’s a little something poking out bub’s nose.

You know what? I know I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’m linking up with Yay for Home as part of Things I Know.

  1. Hahaha, funny how the picture perfect moments are not actually the best bit of parenting, your exactly right, wouldnt have it any other way 🙂

  2. Gemma says:

Not until you are in it you realise how perfectly imperfect it is.

  3. tiff says:

Yep, sounds like motherhood to me.
Messy, noisy and wonderful… well, mostly wonderful.

  4. Nee says:

My hit prediction is that weetbix will be the next up & coming must-have fashion accessory. Well, I’m possibly being overly optimistic because it would be the only fashionable thing I ever sport 😉

Both are photos are gorgeous. Precious memories of a time that will pass all too quickly x

    • Kel says:

Nee, I think we should start the Weetbix trend. Let’s be fashion leaders, not followers! Hehe! 🙂
Thanks for the kind words, too. x

  5. The reality beats the dream any day!

ps My boy turned one two weeks ago and I’m still wearing my nursing bra’s and stretchy fat pants! They’re too comfy to give up 😉

    • Kel says:

Oh, aren’t they, Kellie. I wish I could still wear my pregnancy trousers. They were the most comfy trousers I’ve ever owned and post-birth actually made my tum look flatter! Maybe I should still wear them. Hey, who’s going to know! 🙂

  6. Veronica says:

Oh definitely, motherhood is a whole lot less glamourous than “they” would have us believe. But you know what? I love it the way it is. Messy hair and all.

  7. Marita says:

I love the real family photo 🙂 Plus wheatbix is good for your skin 😀

    • Kel says:

Ooh, good to know, Marita. I’ll remember that. It’s usually smeared across everyone’s faces by 8.30am – including mine. So might have to embrace it a little more! 🙂

  8. Skyelee says:

Lucky I was never glamourous to begin with 😉 At least you take pics with the kids, I can’t stand being in photos, but am rueing the fact I have little to no photos of me and the girls when they were babies!

    • Kel says:

It’s a rare day for me to be IN the photo. I’m far more comfortable sitting behind it. But have to force myself to get in them sometimes purely for that reason – I don’t want to look back and not have any. I’m OK with it, fuzzy breastfeeding hair and all!! Hehe!
And you were – and still are – a stunner (I spied your wedding photo!)! xx

  9. Naomi Ellis says:

I still think it is a lovely picture and cannot see what you do…what a gorgeous mother and super cute cherubs…but you know I totally get where you are coming from 🙂

    • Kel says:

Thanks Naomi. I should have probably mentioned I’m a perfectionist! LOL! 🙂
PS. So wishing I was able to catch up with you next week. Hope you have a fabulous time.

  10. Sara says:

geez, you should see my most recent photo with the kids: both not enjoying the kids’ concert we went to, Sofia looking wild and morose, Lucas forlorn with an old hat on, me with the biggest cold sore under my lip…

    Looking good Kellie 🙂

  11. Yeran says:

I think you look picture perfect!!!!! And your daughters are uber gorgeous! I actually prefer the ‘reality’ pic to the first one <3 although both are beautiful 😉

    • Kel says:

Thank you so much, Yeran. That’s really nice of you to say. I like the second photo too – even if my hair is being pulled!! Hehe! 🙂

  12. Caz says:

Lol Kellie – we’re living the same imperfect dream sister!! You all look fabulous to me :0)

  13. katepickle says:

I think being a mother has taught me to see the glorious perfecting in the imperfectness of it all!

  14. Grace says:

Aw, I think the second photo is absolutely gorgeous…and perfect ! (Especially your beautiful shiny hair !)
Perfection is a myth. Give me reality any day 🙂

    • Kel says:

Yes, I totally agree, Grace – and this coming from someone who is known as a perfectionist!! Hehe!! Since mummyhood, I’ve lost that very quickly! Kids will do that to you. 😉

  15. Think it’s a gorgeous photo Kellie, capturing a moment in a beautiful family’s life.

PS you are a total glamour you duffer.

  16. I think that Photo is divine. I wish I could look so peaceful, even if only on the outside. At least the kids & you are smiling, and have lippy on! Whats that!
    x

    • Kel says:

LOL!! It’s a rare day the lippy comes out now, Courtney. Didn’t realise how many of them I had stashed away in the back of the bathroom cupboard! 😉
Thanks for your kind words, too. x

  17. Kirsty says:

Late to the party (as always) but I love your picture with the girls – it is real and beautiful and exactly what is great and real about motherhood and having a family!

    • Kel says:

Better late, than never, Kirsty!! Hehe!!
Thanks for the comment. That’s really lovely. You’re quite right – it is exactly what’s great about motherhood!! Even the Weetbix part! 😉

  18. Anyone who says it’s glamorous may be lucky or lying… I think the second picture is so much more beautiful! Reality is beautiful. 🙂

  19. Shae says:

The reality of motherhood can be so overwhelming-and also so beautiful

    • Kel says:

So true, Shae. Having an “overwhelming” day today with a little bubba battling a high temperature! Let’s hope tomorrow is more about the “beauty”! 😉

  20. Dee says:

At first glance I could see nothing askew in the second photo!
It wasn’t until you pointed it out 🙂

    • Kel says:

Oh, that’s so lovely of you, Dee. Funny how when we’re in it, we see things so differently. Makes me realise sometimes we need to step out of the situation to appreciate it more. x

  21. amie says:

I loved this post, the fact that I was also covered in paint and yoghurt after a busy mornign of ballet and school added to the comedy of it 🙂
