baby with sun hatIF YOU stalk me on Twitter or Facebook you will know Baby Holly did something pretty special on Sunday night. I’m talking Bruce McAvaney “speeeeecial’’. Sorry, but it is AFL grand final week. Baby Holly managed to sleep an entire 10 hours. Ten.straight.hours. If you were here right now I’d be going the full-on chest bump. Although, beware: the two girls do leak.

The one downside was at 3.30am when she stirred slightly, I remained awake until she finally rose at 4.50am. I know, not exactly my idea of a good time to start the day but, after 10 hours straight, I’m not complaining… yet.

At 3.30am, I got up and did a whizzer, had a drink and then snuggled back up to The Bloke in The Shed. Sure, his loud breathing and occasional snort didn’t help, but I just couldn’t escape back into that dream where George Clooney and his pig move in. Yes, highly unrealistic. His pig’s dead.

Sleep eventually returned after Princess Ella finally learnt that midnight disco parties aren’t fun after a year of them, so I know it won’t be forever. I just can’t remember how long it took or whether there were any tips to fast-track my way to sleep.

If you know the answer, please do tell.

PS. I’m writing this last night, so I have my fingers crossed I haven’t just jinxed myself and get up to her three times during the night – as per usual.

PPS. Daylight savings starts this weekend, so now is a good time to start getting the kids to bed 15 minutes earlier each night. Then, by the weekend, they’ll be well adjusted. And 4.50am will be a more respectable 5.50am!

This is the bane of my life. Miss A has been sleeping for 10 hours straight for nearly a year. Me? I wake every two hours without fail. Every. Single. Night. No wonder I’m a tired Mumma. I’m hoping I grow out of it!! 🙂

  2. I think I’m just so sleep deprived that I currently have no trouble drifting to the land of nod even after I wake. Oh, I hope I haven’t jinxed myself either! But on the occasion when I have, I’ve usually used a bit of lavender sleep balm and tried to get my mind on auto-pilot by listening to my breathing. Not fool-proof but occasionally successful. Here’s wishing you the sleepy fairy dust to help you to the land of nod.

  3. No help on this one Kelly, when you find the answers be sure to fill us in!

You make me giggle, your dream about George and his pig! More so the fact that it is unrealistic only because the pig is dead…

I used to have a thing for George Clooney, but he is really starting to show his age and I don’t think he will be one of those men that age well… He still works a suit well though I’ll give home that!

    • Kel says:

Yes, poor ol’ George just ain’t what he used to be. I think he knows he looks rather dapper in a suit, which is why you never see him in anything else!! 🙂

I was always lucky enough to have dad get up overnight bc I’m such a bad sleeper. So can’t really help you out there. But I love your tip for sending them to bed 15mins earlier every night this week to manage daylight savings!

    • Kel says:

Lucky you, Di. Soooo envious!! 😉
I’ve actually just done a full post on the daylight saving schedule, just for those who may not do it! Glad you liked it! x

Hahaha no suggestions sorry, I’m a 5am riser. My baby is 6yo, and I still get up at anywhere from 5am. I know, sad right?
But I make the most of it, and have a nice non-child-interrupted-cuppa that I wouldn’t be able to have otherwise. Put on a load of washing, and just do ‘stuff’ lol

    • Kel says:

Oh my goodness, Miss Cinders! Pre-kids, I was one of those people who went to bed at 8.30pm and got up to 8am!! Ha! Now…. it’s 10.30pm-11pm and up at 5-6am. Funny how we change! That hour of the morning is good for bloggy time though!! 🙂

Struggling to comprehend your words….. what is this 10 hour sleep? What? Huh?

I struggle to sleep too. And guaranteed the minute my exhausted body gives in the toddler wakes up.

I can’t remember my own name most mornings…..

Maybe your child can teach my child about sleep….

    • Kel says:

Oh, Nathalie, you poor thing. For me, it feels like it’s been a long time coming. So I can’t imagine how it is for you. She woke at 1am last night and was up at 5.30am. We’re getting there…. 🙂

My baby is not sleeping through the night yet! You’re so lucky Holly slept for ten hours straight! I’m so sleep deprived.

Oh Naomi, hang in there. It’s such tough going. Having a four-year-old who is now a fabulous sleeper gives me hope that there’s light at the end of this very long and dark tunnel! xx

  8. Naomi says:

    BTW like your blog!

  9. Caz says:

So cruel this. I know the feeling so well. They finally sleep and you can’t. Why Why Why!! I don’t know the answer – but rest assured it will happen one day 🙂 Nite Nite 🙂

    • Kel says:

Thanks Caz. Yes, fingers crossed it’s sooner rather than later. Mind you, Holly was up at 1am last night, so that’s not helping my cause!! Hehe! 😉
