I know. What a bizarre title for a post. But you will be amazed by this story. Seriously. Forget Kim Kardashian, this will be your water cooler topic for the day. I’m still totally in shock myself.

You see, after writing about The Bloke in The Shed’s new Dyson and my excitement at the thought of him using it, I got sick of the wait and decided to just use the darn thing myself. The girls hate loud noises, so vacuuming tends to never happen. That’s my excuse, anyway. However, when my Mum came around yesterday, I thought it might be a good opportunity to get the three living areas treated with the Dyson, at least.

This was the end result for its first outing.

Dyson dust

That’s from only THREE rooms.

What on earth have we been living in all this time? Kind of says something about the quality of our last vacuum. I’m ever so thankful for our super sucking Dyson.

Do you have a Dyson? Has your vacuum ever captured this much dust in ONE go and flawed you as much as this has me?

  1. I love love love my dyson! We got that much out of one room when we first bought it…thatll make you feel better! I was so shocked! they are amazing! Weve had our for 5years and have never had a problem with it its fab!

    • Kel says:

That’s so glad to hear you’ve had it that long without a problem, Sarah. Very reassuring! I’m in love with ours now too. Vacuuming has never been so much fun! πŸ™‚

  2. jodi says:

I have a dyson too and when I first used it I got about that much dust out of one room too, I use it every second day (if not daily) with a messy toddler, they are worth their weight in gold I think πŸ™‚

    • Kel says:

Wow! For one room it’s scary, isn’t it Jodi! I only did a VERY quick vacuum, so can’t wait till I can actually do a proper vacuum on the weekend. We may be emptying it quite a few times!

  3. Same – Love my Dyson – want to marry it! Except it makes me feel very very dirty. It is amazing how much stuff it picks up. yech!
    xxx

    • Kel says:

LOL!! Love that, Sonia! I agree with you on the dirty thing. It makes me wonder what’s been on Li’l Holly’s hands when she’s crawling around the floor! πŸ™‚

  4. Margaret says:

Kell when we bought our first Dyson about twelve months ago Rob wanted to try it out and he got about that much just from our living room also, we were amazed at just how bad the other one must have been, we will always have our Dyson now and never go back to others.

    • Kel says:

Far out, Margaret! That’s pretty incredible. I’m a bit shocked by how powerful it is. I know, you hear all that on the ads, but you always take that sort of thing with a grain of salt. Seeing is believing though! πŸ™‚

  5. Kylie Devlin says:

Yep, another one here with exactly the same experience. The first time we used it you would think that we had NEVER vacuumed before.

I love my Dyson. If it ever dies I’m buying another and having the first one stuffed and mounted in my lounge room.

    • Kel says:

My mum was a bit shocked, Kylie. She questioned me three times about the last time I vacuumed. OK, so it was a while ago, but still…. πŸ™‚
Laughing at your plans for your Dyson! πŸ™‚

  6. Toddler actually hates the vacuums over bub so I still seldom do it ( though probably should now bub is crawling). We bought our dyson a few years back and it’s great. Sometimes it gets full from just one or two rooms and we live in an apartment! Granted, there’s a lot of construction outside so dust seeps in everywhere. This all reminds me, we’re overdue for a good vacuum!

    • Kel says:

Good luck with the vacuuming, Veronica. Glad to hear it’s not only my kids who hate the vacuum! For once, it’s actually quite frustrating. I just want to get into the cleaning right now and the girls won’t let me! Whoever though vacuuming could be fun! Ha! πŸ˜‰

  7. Ai Sakura says:

No I don’t have a Dyson, just a Philips but I love vacuuming!!! Something about seeing dirt being sucked up makes me real happy haha…

  8. We had that happen we first used our dyson. It is now 6 yrs old and I hate it… sorry!

Don’t get me wrong, they are a great vaccum, but who ever said they don’t loose suck was fibbing.

    • Kel says:

That’s interesting to hear, Amy. I wonder if the new models are any better. Will be interesting to see. Time will tell, I guess. πŸ™‚

  9. Elise says:

I luuurve my dyson. And just like you I was horrified the first time I used it. I had to empty it before I could finish my house the first time around.

    • Kel says:

Hehe!! I’m wondering how many times I’m going to have to empty ours, Elise. It may have to be emptied more than once. Eeekk! πŸ™‚

  10. Julie says:

I agree with Ai. I love vacuuming. I think it is the same part of the brain that motivates young men to drive their cars very fast. It is a power thing. All I have to do is push the Dyson around a bit and I am getting so much cleaning done. I use it on the hard floors too.

    • Kel says:

LOL! Oh, I love that, Julie. And strangely, I actually agree with you!
I think I may have had the wrong nozzle/head thingy on for the hard floors, because it didn’t seem to work as well as it did on the carpet. I think I’d better actually read the manual! πŸ™‚

  11. Ali says:

You are all making me want to get a Dyson!!!!

    • Kel says:

Hehe!! So sorry, Ali. Maybe a Christmas present? It might just be the first time you’d be happy to get a vacuum as a present! πŸ™‚

  12. Cathy says:

I’m sure this much comes off my floors every time I vacuum! How much easier would life be without dust?!

  13. We bought a Dyson not long after moving to our new house, a few months maybe. I’m a rabid vacuumer so was HORRIFIED at what it picked up on its first outing. The people who lived here before us had a cat, and it was picking up hair that my older vax hadn’t managed despite almost daily vacuums. Amazing, will never be without one again.

  14. We have a dyson… and it is that full every time we vacuum. I figure we probably should vacuum more often!

  15. Sif says:

I don’t have a Dyson, but that photo really makes me wish I did! Wow, that’s excellent! I’ve always thought the Dyson looked too small for our place, but I guess vacuuming becomes such a joy, you’ll probably do it every given chance now!

    • Kel says:

I am pretty enthusiastic about the cleaning all of a sudden, Sif. I think The Bloke in The Shed is itching to have a go of it too. He’s been pretty impressed by the amount of dust in it! It’s been the hot topic of conversation in our house. Sad, but true! πŸ™‚

  16. Trish says:

I dont have a Dyson either but we have a good one , that hubby uses and he almost destroyed. I think I want a Dyson now *sigh*

  17. WOW ! I need a Dyson! Fortunantly my baby doesn’t mind me vaccuming, maybe its because I don’t do it that often & so she thinks its a novelty each time?

    • Kel says:

LOL!! That’s classic, Sara! I think it’s the opposite here. I don’t use it enough, so it’s a scary, foreign object to them! πŸ˜‰

  18. Louisa says:

Wow! Now I am feeling very nervous…

  19. Chantel says:

I LOVE my dyson! I get the barrel that full from just one rug!!!! We do have a Bernese Mountain Dog who has more fur than a yeti, but thats even from vaccuming 3 times per week! I hate to think how our rugs would be if it wasnt that frequent!

    • Kel says:

LOL!! Love the yeti reference, Chantel. I can imagine how much quicker the Dyson would fill up with an animal in the house too! πŸ™‚

  20. We have polished boards, no carpets, so I tend to sweep most of the time. I find it therapeutic, but get totally grossed out by the size of the dust pile at the end! And that’s pretty much on a daily basis!

    • Kel says:

Wow, you vacuum daily, Laney? I’m impressed. I SHOULD vacuum daily, especially with a little crawler in the house, but it just doesn’t happen! πŸ™‚

  21. Lisa Wood says:

We had a dyson vacuum cleaner when we lived in our house! Now that we live in our Motorhome, we dont have carpet!! But I would still love my dyson for cleaning our car…there was no room to bring it with us so its in storage πŸ™‚

And yes we got that much out of house every time I used our Dyson. Maybe its going really deep and that is why it looks like so much dust/dirt/hair/stuff??? Maybe it spins it so it all spreads out, to make it look like more then what is really there….or maybe that was not my excuse for how much it could pick up!

    Cheers
    Lisa

    • Kel says:

Oh, the benefits of living in a motorhome, Lisa! One of those little handheld Dysons would be perfect for you, maybe.
Loving your logic in the last par! You could be onto something…. πŸ˜‰

  22. Seana Smith says:

What a shocker! My carpets yield only a tiny bit of fluff…. false!! I have a Dyson and think it’s amazing. Would love the handheld one some day… also love their ring-shaped fan, very cool. Clever company.

    • Kel says:

I’ve been eyeing off the handheld one too, Seana. Every time I see it come on the tellie, I start dreaming about how much more vacuuming would be done if I had the handheld!! πŸ™‚
I have to agree – they are a pretty clever company. x

  23. I don’t have carpet but I really should vacuum my floorboards more often than I do…the kids do hate the sound but I could try harder to get it done if I really wanted to! You just sold a dyson to me if I ever have carpet again – you should be their ambassador!!!!

  24. Marita says:

We’ve got a cyclonic twin clean electrolux and I was amazed how much crud it pulled out of the carpets when we first started using it. Now we live in a house with wooden floorboards and it doesn’t get used as often because the swiffer mop is easier.

Got a hand held dyson and it is just brilliant for spot cleaning πŸ™‚

    • Kel says:

I’m very keen on this handheld Dyson, Marita. I’m trying to convince myself that it would be a good purchase. Sometimes you just don’t need to get the BIG vacuum out to do a LITTLE job! πŸ™‚

  25. Ever since I’ve been reviewing their vacuum cleaners (the DC22, DC31, and DC35), I’ve always recommended them to my friends (some of them eventually bought it)

It sucks like there’s no tomorrow. I even tested using my old vacuum and then re-vacuum with Dyson’s, and still amazed (and scared) at how many dirt and dust it picked!!

    • Kel says:

They are pretty incredible machines, Michael, that’s for sure! I always just assumed the TV ads were a slight exaggeration, but I’m totally won over now! Thanks for your comment. πŸ™‚
