My brother and Li'l Holly at the Melbourne Zoo

IF YOU’RE reading this early Sunday morning, I’m about to board a plane home to North West Tasmania after four days in muggy, wet Melbourne. If you’re working on QantasLink this morning, apologies, that smell is eminating from MY suitcase. Need to invest in some more powerful deodorant, I think.

I’ll have a few posts this week about my trip, but some highlights were:

  • The location of Medina Executive South Yarra couldn’t have been more perfect. It was actually a coincidence, but it ended up being close to EVERYTHING we needed to get to. I highly recommend it.
  • We became so familiar with South Yarra as we drove around in our Ford, courtesy of Thrifty Car Rental, Ella began to notice familiar sights. The Bloke in The Shed introduced her to the Treasury Building and when seeing it a second time, she piped up with: “Look Dad, that’s the building that has treasure in it’’.
  • DFO South Wharf was probably one of the better DFOs I’ve been to in Melbourne. I am the world’s worst shopper (Julian outdoes me in this department), but I still managed a pair of Guess jeans, some heels and too much clothing for the girls. Always the way.
  • Meeting so many bloggers in one spot at the Kids Business Bloggers Brunch was truly fantastic, not to mention inspiring. It was nice to put some more real-life faces to pint-sized avatars. Although, once again, the main comment I received was: “you sound so much bigger on your blog’’. My only regret was not meeting everyone or spending more time with those I had brief chats with.
  • And on the Bloggers Brunch, there were a few brands which really stood out for me. I’m hoping to introduce you to some of those over the next few weeks.
  • There was so much rain at the Melbourne Zoo for our visit we noticed zoo staff building an ark. Despite the weather, an animal-loving one-year-old and four-year-old thoroughly enjoyed it. The highlight was the giraffes, because Ella really wants one as a pet. For The Bloke in The Shed and my brother it was this animal:lion drinking at Melbourne Zoo
  • A picnic dinner at the Royal Botanic Gardens with good food and even better company was a relaxing start to our trip. Ella and her new friend Bliss hit it off so well, you’d swear they’d been friends for years. You would be astounded to hear the type of adventures that await highly imaginative pre-schoolers in the gardens.
  • I have fallen in love with the Prahran Market. I am seriously considering moving to Melbourne now. Ella was salivating as she eyed off all the olives. I’m ready to head back for a Caramalised fig and almond gelato.Melbourne Zoo giraffe and seal

I am envious. I love Melbourne. I was there a few months ago (for the Skylander release.) And I love the botanic gardens.

    xx

That was my first visit to the Botanic Gardens, Lucy. So glad we went. Ella had a ball there. Looking forward to posting a few more photos now I’m home and able to download! 🙂

It was wet this weekend. Hot then wet. Sorry we didn’t turn the weather on for you. It was lovely to finally meet you and sorry my first comment was also how adorably tiny you are 🙂 Good things come in small packages hey!!

    • Kel says:

LOL!! Oh Caz, don’t apologise! It always gives me a bit of a giggle! Funny how we have a picture of someone in our head and meeting them can be so totally different. Mind you, you were exactly as I imagined you, Caz. It really was so nice to finally meet and have a chance to chat!
And yes, Melbourne put on some rather challenging weather for us! 😉

  3. My hubby loved Prahran markets too. I didn’t get to head there are he went when the Brunch was on.

Was great to meet up Kellie, albiet it briefly.

    • Kel says:

You’ll have to make sure it’s on your agenda for your next visit, Amy. You would love it!

Oh, the coffee, Tahlia. It was heaven! Melbourne does know how to brew a good coffee. The weather was… interesting! 😉
Not that it mattered to us, we still had a ball while we were there. Although, it is nice to be home too. x

  5. It looks like you had a great time xx

    • Kel says:

It was wonderful, Kate. There’s just too much to see and do in Melbourne. You really need longer than a couple of days! Actually, you probably need a whole year! LOL! 🙂

    Hi Kelly,

I love Melbourne! I cant wait to head there with our motorhome, and show our boys all there is to see 🙂

My older son rang me last night, he was allowed to go into Melbourne yesterday – he said the DFO shopping centre was the best – he couldnt believe the clothes and how good the prices were! I was born to shop – and I think he takes after me.

We havent been to the Zoo yet, but we are so keen to go – everyone talks about how good it is for kids.

Very funny about your smelly suitcase 🙂

    Cheers
    Lisa

    • Kel says:

So glad to hear someone else enjoyed the DFO, Lisa. There are quite a few to choose from, but South Wharf really was pretty good! And yes, the bargains! My goodness…. You will love it! 😉
I’ve got another post coming on some of the other things we did while in Melbourne, so will give you a heads up when it’s live, if you like.
      x
