Kellie O'Brien, Three Li'l Princesses

My album cover... *cough cough*

DID you know I’m a recorded singer-songwriter? OK, so it wasn’t exactly a chart topper. Actually, it didn’t even make the charts.

ABC Music recorded a Christmas song I penned and it was toured as part of a North West and West Coast Tasmania Christmas carols series back in 2004. I might also add the song was backed by the 80-piece Burnie Youth Choir, led by my fabulous singing teacher Katy Pakinga. If you are wondering why I’m introducing myself, yes, I also hosted the concert series.

Let’s be frank here, my singing is dodgy. American Idol intro, anyone? Please!

Beyonce, if you’re reading this, sorry but the song is copyrighted so don’t even think about stealing it. However, there’s a tab up in the top right hand corner there called “contact” if you want to talk money. Plus, I have a whole collection of other originals if you’re interested.

Please note, the file was huge and I spent half the night trying to compress it. Unfortunately, I failed. So it may take a while to download. Big apologies. Am working on trying to make the file smaller!

And here’s the Burnie Youth Choir’s much better (rather low res) version – minus me!

The concert was held in front of a few of hundred people at the Burnie Civic Centre.

STAY TUNED: I have a rather big Christmas announcement to make on Sunday…

Do you support your local carols? What’s your favourite carol?

OMG! Not dodgy at all. A Gorgeous, sweet voice, heart-felt song and glittering in gold. You so rock Kelllie…..I’m sure there are other talents you are keeping under wraps too!

  2. Wow!
Kellie you certainly rocked. Such a beautiful voice. Loved it!

Our favourite Christmas carols are Jingle Bell Rock and We wish you a Merry Christmas.

Christmas has come so quick this year for us. xx

    • Kel says:

Oh, we love those two too, Jane. Silent Night and Santa Claus is Coming To Town are getting a belting at the moment!
I know what you mean about Christmas coming around quick. It’s been the same here. I think having two children this year – as opposed to one and a baby – has really thrown things out for me! 🙂

  3. Kellie B says:

    That was lovely!

  4. Barb says:

OMG!! I am soooo impressed, you clever little chicken….wish I could hold a tune!

  5. Maggie says:

    Beyonce eat your heart out!!
Kellie that was really good, cant believe I have never heard you sing before, you must have kept it to the safety of your bedroom while growing up.

    • Kel says:

LOL!! I didn’t really start “performing” till my mid 20s and now kids has put a spanner in the works with continuing it! Never mind. One day I might take it up again. Would need some major singing tuition if I did though! 🙂

  6. Elise says:

Oh wow, good for you, I am so impressed. Thats definately something to have lying around on the coffee table, “what this old thing, no just my last CD, yep in taks with Guy Sebastion for the next one””. Lovely voice too 🙂

    • Kel says:

Hehe!! And to think Guy started out oversinging all the lines to his songs too!! 😉
You never know what’s in store… Likely nothing, but it’s nice to dream! Ha! 🙂

  7. Lisa Wood says:

    Hi Kel,

That is gorgeous! You have a wonderful voice – beautiful

Thank you for sharing your talent, looking forward to hearing your xmas announcement.

    Cheers
    Lisa

    • Kel says:

Thanks Lisa. Looking through all the old performances on video last night, that was probably one of the worst, but I thought it would be nice to share a Christmas song now we’ve hit December!
Looking forward to sharing my Christmas news on Sunday too! 🙂

  8. Glowless says:

    How cool! Multi talented 😛

  9. Caz says:

I’ve always thought you were a clever lady 🙂 This just proves it!

    • Kel says:

Back in the day I’d write a song or two a week. I was obsessed with songwriting and performing. Thank goodness blogging came along and saved everyone from continued torture! LOL! 🙂

  10. Well aren’t you full of surprises! You have a beautiful voice, Kellie 😀

    • Kel says:

Thank you, Kellie. Wondering what else surprises I can pull out now. Thinking my knitting might be next! If only I were joking! 🙂

  11. Tat says:

Wow, you are a woman of many talents and your singing is beautiful!

    • Kel says:

Thanks Tat. If only I could master this singing thing! Hehe! Don’t think I’ll be performing on the big carols stage this year, somehow! 🙂

  12. Erica says:

It really is great! You should start a new group with your princesses! That would be awesome!

  13. jody says:

Amazing! such a beautiful voice! x

    • Kel says:

Thanks Jody. Wishing I’d continued with the singing thing and got some more training (as you can tell, I needed it!), but singing in the kitchen to an over enthusiastic audience of two is just as good! 🙂

  14. I’m so impressed Kellie! You has a beautiful voice. It was very brave for you to stand up and sing a song you wrote yourself. It gave me tingles!

    • Kel says:

Aww, thanks Penny. That’s so lovely of you. I think The Bloke in The Shed had much the same reaction the first time I stood up and sang an original. I’d sung a few originals publicly by the time I did this one, but was still pretty nervous (as you can tell!). 🙂

  15. You have a gorgeous gorgeous voice hun and what a beautiful song. You have completely blown me away you talented girl. xxx

  16. […] So, I want to know, who’s your favourite carols singer? And no funny jokes about me. […]
