By The Bloke in The Shed

I KNOW there is a new scourge emerging on Tasmanian streets as summer approaches. It needs to be stamped out and this is not just a crime against humanity, it’s a crime against good taste.

Some of you may remember the infamous Bras are for Boobs post on this site where I revealed the horrifying emerging trend of women using their mammary cradles as mobile phone holders. That post drew plenty of comments and plenty of traffic (albeit some of it looking for perhaps a little more than what the post offered).

Now, like that bra lesson, methinks that very few wives are guilty of this latest sin. In fact, I’d go as far as suggesting these latest sinners are single ladies or those who go out with blokes who wear their peaked caps to the side, have their favourite dirt bike brand stickered on their back window and feature numerous misspelled words tattooed on various parts of their beings.

Okay, that out of the way, what is this new crime? When in the heck did it become okay to wear very high cut, skimpy shorts with knee-high ugg boots? Seriously, maybe you might be able to get away with it at home, but in the main street of town in the middle of the day? I’m not sure I’ve seen a better case for the return of corporal punishment.

It’s like the women (okay, mostly teenage girls) can’t decide whether it’s warm enough or not outside so they have five bucks each way. Having been a fan of the ugg boot over the years, in the right environment, this seemingly growing fad must be nipped in the bud before it gets out of hand lest it damage the lambs-wool shoes’ brand irreparably.

Please, for the good of humankind, say no to ugg-ly shorts combos.

Have you witnessed this fashion disaster? Or are you brave enough to admit you’re part of the trend?

What is a girl to wear in the Devonport mall when you are trying to impress your boyfriend then??? Hanging around in groups with a packet of ciggies just isn’t going to cut it – they must wear uggs to complete their look! Praps to keep warmer they should stick with the whole ‘leggings as pants’ fashion!

Regards, A precious Devonport Resident (but never and uggs and shorts wearer!!)

  2. Lionesslady says:

oops -that should have said ‘previous’ not ‘precious’!!!!

  3. Rhianna says:

One of the joys of living in the tropics is that for the most part all people team with their too short shorts are thongs and bikinis

  4. I have witnessed many an ugg-ly sighting in my day.. including my partner and his bestfriend… middle of summer – shorts with knee high uggs.. that are so old and tatty that I would rather him walk around with no shoes (a big pet hate of mine) at the shops than his yucky uggs – which he won’t replace!!!

I do love the uggs, though they give me awful static shocks.. I would only wear them in winter… when its cold.. 🙂

  5. Ai Sakura says:

Is this a new trend?? 😛 I think it’s been going on for a long time in Japan… heh

  6. Bahahahaha this morning I was getting around in my (pretty short) shorts and uggish slippers I must confess! Hubster loikes it ;p That said I didn’t leave the house like that.

I put on my leggings as pants first ;p

  7. kirri says:

Ok…I confess….I’ve worn uggs with short shorts and short skirts but that was 2005. Is this really still going on? Ahhh, is this a Tassie thing again bahaha 🙂

  8. Grace says:

Never went there. Will never go there. I will die if my boys go out with girls that go there ! Then again, I have short stumpy legs…I would look so, so, so wrong !!!

  9. Skyelee says:

Well, we have to have something to remind ourselves of how incredibly stylish the rest of us all are! 😉

  10. Melissa says:

I love my little Uggs, but they stay at home. A bit like my pjs! Hint hint – not a good look in Northgate, Glenorchy, or anywhere else for that matter.

  11. miss.cinders says:

Hahahaha I AGREE!!!! ALthough I reckon if Miss TJ15 had some knee high uggy’s she’d do it too. Her fashion sense is questionable.

Although I am guilty of walking the kids to school in my slippers in my younger days….

  12. I blame Pamela Anderson for this Ugg trend!! Also probably for the boob trend as well.

Ahh to be young again and get away with those sorts of trends 😉

  13. Marita says:

    LOL

    :: shudder ::

I wear ugg boots – with my long winter PJs when it is cold.

And I never wear short shorts.

  14. Jayne says:

I wouldn’t worry. They make the rest of us look awesome by comparison 😉

Such an awful (and possibly never-ending) trend.

  15. Lisa Wood says:

Would you believe we have the very same thing happening in Queensland…where its not cold enough for the ugg boots, but its hot enough for the shorts! But what is with the shorts that are too short..the ones where the pockets hang down too low! Cant they afford to wear real clothes?

    Cheers
    Lisa

  16. haha… some people have their own fashion i guess. What makes us all interesting and unique! xx
