Zhu Zhu, Zhu Fari, Zhu Zebra, IF YOU missed yesterday’s laugh, I mean post, you would have missed the original Christmas song I wrote and recorded all the way back in 2004. It’s a cracker. Or it will crack you up, one of the two.

Anyway, yesterday Princess Ella and I decided to recruit some help and tackle one of our all-time favourite Christmas carols, Silent Night – a capella. Of course, I should have already known trying to get two Zhu Zhus and a four-year-old giggling girl to cooperate would be challenging, but this is the end result:

I know the Zhu Zhus would have been better stuffed into a bag for all the help they provided with harmonies. Actually, to be honest, they’re not a bad idea if you’re looking for a stocking filler. Well, that’s what Ella will find in hers, anyway.

Apologies for the quality of the video and that darn date in the corner. First attempt at recording via the laptop! Yes, welcome to amatuer hour.

Are your children obsessed with Christmas carols as much as mine is at the moment?

    Wow, Kellie ! You have a beautiful voice ! Really…I’m impressed ! 🙂

  2. Do you feel you’ve missed your calling, perhaps? Singing and writing, not directing a zhu zhu concert. 🙂

We’ve not gotten into the carols here yet though I’m trying. I think Miss T is going to have to see someone like The Wiggles of Elmo sing them before she takes to it. Hey, I just remembered; there’s YouTube!

    • Kel says:

Don’t think I’ll ever make it in the video directing field, Veronica. LOL! Never work with children and animals. 😉
The latest Wiggles Christmas CD is pretty good. Ella and Holly both love it. I’d highly recommend giving that one a go! x

  3. Nee says:

You have an amazing voice!! Not sure I can say the same for the Zhu Zhu’s 😉

  4. kirri says:

You’re beautiful and so is your voice Kellie!
My girls are killing me with ‘Aussie Jingle Bells’ at the moment and “Chockablock”….I’d take a zhu-zhu jingle any time!

    • Kel says:

      Thanks Kirri.
Oh, Aussie Jingle Bells. No, no, no!! LOL! I have no idea what Chockablock is. Might have to go and do some Googling! Sounds interesting. 🙂

  5. Ai Sakura says:

Hmmmm.. actually we haven’t been playing any Christmas carols yet.. but my lil girl is indeed obsessed with k-pop songs at the moment! She loves to sing and dance along to them ;p I should get a vid of her one day heehee..

  6. Wow you are an amazing singer!! I think you need to perhaps start a kid’s band or something!!
My kids are into ALL the Christmas songs at the moment. It’s funny because they don’t know all the words, so most of them are made up.
    I heart Christmas 🙂

    • Kel says:

Thanks Romina. Thinking the kids band might work. Li’l Holly has just started singing – well, I think it’s singing! We might be better suited to punk maybe, for all the awful noise we’re likely to make together! Hehe! 😉
Love that your kids are getting the words wrong. Too cute. Don’t know if you noticed, but Ella sings “round yon virget” in the song. I tried to explain to her it’s “virgin”, but she keeps forgetting! x

  7. Caz says:

Very cute. One of mine it is getting a zhu zhu pet this year. that will make to for the house hold. keep singing girls 🙂

    • Kel says:

Oh, how exciting for the pinks, Caz. I always love seeing Li’l Holly’s reaction when she sees a Zhu Zhu. You’d swear they were real for all the excitement there is! 🙂

  8. Oh yes, love Christmas carols, so soothing when you’re stuck on one difficult gift to buy at the shops but i am put off Bing Crosby, apparently he was an abusive father & one of his children committed suicide, shame, he is such a great singer but i can’t get his personal life out of my head!! Love Posie

    • Kel says:

Really? Oh, I won’t be able to listen to his carolling the same anymore, Posie. That’s really sad. I actually have a DVD of his annual Christmas family show. I’ll never be able to look at that the same either.
I know what you mean about changing your opinion of an artist because of how they are off stage. I’ve met plenty of singers over the years as a music journo! x

  9. Teresa End says:

I love singing Christmas carols with my children. It brings out the festive spirit and makes for a great family experience!

  10. Elisha says:

I would be thinking about Australian Idol or X Factor or something ! You have a beautiful voice, its so calming – you can come sing me to sleep anytime =)

  11. […] wonderful memories it brings back. Our family never missed an episode. They were also subjected to follow up concerts, with me always singing lead into a […]
