Young Talent Time, Tina Arena,

Do you know who this is?

In the lead up to the big Young Talent Time launch tonight, I asked on Twitter and Facebook for people to name their favourite YTT member during the Johnny Young days. The answers varied considerably, depending on a person’s age. Or they didn’t answer – because it would reveal their age.

For me it was a toss up between Dannii and Vince. Or maybe the late Juanita, who passed away in a terrible car accident. In its last few years, I got pretty hooked on Rikki too.

Some of the answers that came through included:

  • I liked Dannii and Greg. Hated Courtney, I thought she was so stuck up. LOL
  • I was 3 when it finished :/
  • I have no idea who Vince was. In my day it was Phillip, Jamie and some other guy… #showingmyage
  • Tina Arena!
  • Bevan. But now when I think of that mullet, I get shivers #notgoodones
  • Oh yes Vince!! Be still my beating teenage heart! I loved Tina too and Danni – I was a YTT addict. I just hope they do a good job with it this time around. I’m so hoping they keep their moral standard and have something fun enjoyable (that parents don’t have to monitor) for little ones. I know my girls are going to love it. They are singing and dancing mad. Looking forward to finding out 🙂

During my years as an entertainment journalist, I got handed a Young Talent Time DVD. It’s one of my treasured possessions in the DVD cupboard for all the wonderful memories it brings back. Our family never missed an episode. They were also subjected to follow up concerts, with me always singing lead into a hairbrush.

Then of course there’s seeing a very curly haired Nicole Kidman in her BMX Bandit days spruiking the film. Not your finest fashion moment, Nic.

Oh, and I probably should mention we had a dog. Named after Bevan. Tragics? Yes!

So, I want to know, who’s your favourite Young Talent Time member?

Thanks to all those who left comments on Facebook and Twitter.

Oh, the memories!! Don’t know if we are too jaded for YTT in this day and age…hope it works! Looking forward to a peek. We must be of the same generation because I remember and loved all the pepole you mentioned. Maybe they’ll bring them back as guests?? Very, very sad about Juanita.

    • Kel says:

I was super impressed, Cathy. I thought they did a great job – choreography, song choice and costumes. Ella loved it too! I think we’ve watched it seven times since. I tear up everytime they sing All My Lovin’. Such a sook! LOL!
I’m 34 for the record. It was great to see some of the old faces on the show. It brings back such wonderful memories. I vividly recall when Juanita died and was so devastated.

  3. Trish says:

I liked them all and watched it always …all my loving !

  4. I hated Courtney too! But my favourite was Karen Knowles, and it was nice to see her on the show last night.

    • Kel says:

Wasn’t it ever! All those old faces – what memories! Some of them haven’t changed a bit, either.
Laughing at your comment about Courtney! Hehe! 🙂

  5. Mandy says:

That show was my livelyhood growing up. I had the board game, loads of magazines and I even went and saw joey perform live once, was such a highlight. I can laugh now. But I loved it and I hope this new version is just as enjoyable for my daughter.

    • Kel says:

You had the board game AND saw Joey perform live, Mandy? Oh my goodness, I am so jealous!!! 🙂
Ella really enjoyed it. So much so, we’ve watched it seven times since.

I started watching when I was ten, My favourites were Karen Dunkerton and Micheal Campbell. I wanted to go out with Michael he was my first TV crush – aside from good looks he had the most beautiful voice. I wanted to be Karen, those clothes, that hair, her figure, that smile -she was lovely.
The most talented girls were Tina, Karen Knowles, Jodie and Lorena when it came to voices, and for the boys, looking back its hard to believe that Joey Perrone didn’t become a huge star as he had the energy and charisma to carry him through. Although not the most naturally talented, charasmatic Dannii was very “watchable” even from her earliest days. I found the talent lacking in the last year with the exception of the late Juanita. Looking back, there are a lot of great memories, but I’ve been awaiting a reunion concert for years just so I could hear Michael sing again.

    • Oh, I would love to go to a YTT reunion concert, Rebecca! That would be fabulous. I’m surprised Johnny Young hasn’t organised something. Particularly in light of last year’s new season. It would have certainly helped their ratings!
