So, what wins do I have to sprout about this week? Well, let’s see:

WIN: I finally got Ella to look beyond Hi-5 and The Fairies and introduced her to High School Musical. I discovered a copy of the DVD tucked away in the cupboard from my entertainment magazine days. She instantly fell in love. I instantly wanted to be 10 years younger so I was half a chance with Zac Efron. OK, maybe more like a 3% chance.

Zac Efron

LOSE: Three days later we’d watched it five times already and she’d discovered I also had the CD. It is now on high rotation in the car.

WIN: I had to go to the video store (not that they have videos anymore. Someone really needs to rebrand them) to get a copy of Red Dog for the book I’m writing. I took Ella along. We discovered High School Musical 2 and 3. I know. Who would have thought?

LOSE: She’s not interested in the second and third instalment. Not even with a bucket of popcorn thrown in. She just wants the original and to bust a move singing Stick To The Status Quo. Not that she has any idea what “status quo’’ is.

WIN: Did I mention Zac Efron’s not bad looking. Sadly, that’s as good as it gets, people.

Are your children obsessed with any TV shows or movies at the moment?

  1. Caz says:

LOL Kel – too funny. Maybe you should not have shared this one with Ella and just kept it for yourself. 🙂

  2. Interesting that you mention HSM. I recorded it from telly yesterday – though I think it was number 2 – hoping to show my 2 and 4 yo’s something different. 2 yo is currently addicted to Scooby Doo movies. They are quite scary!

    • Kel says:

Ooh yes, we haven’t done Scooby Doo, Rachel. I can imagine that would have some scary bits in it!
HSM 2 was good, but the original is certainly the standout of the lot, especially for that age group. Ella (4) and Holly (20mo) have both been glued to the first one! I never expected Holly would be interested, but she’s surprised me with her concentration level. I think it’s due to the level of music and dance in it. I did have to explain some of the concepts and words to Ella first time around, but now she tells ME what’s happening in the story!! 🙂
      Hope they enjoy it!

  3. Oh that is so cute Kel! Mini Me loves Bottle Top Bill at the moment and Mister Maker however Peppa Pig shes her come running still! lol. I would love to see her busting a move! 🙂

  4. Daisy says:

Oh we’re onto Alvin and the Chipmunks this week. It’s hurting my feelings already.
And there is no Zac Effron to make it better. Hmmm, High School Musical you say…

  5. Misha says:

I remember my eldest watching Hi5 again and again and again…. and now her younger sister is obsessed with them. I’m impressed that I can still remember the words to all the songs!

    • Kel says:

Ella just can’t get enough of Hi-5, Misha. It’s been nice to have a break from them! Even 20 month old Holly loves them. There’s just so much to draw them in – constant singing, dancing and bright sets and costumes! 🙂

  6. Trish says:

We are back onto Lion King and Happy feet – which is fine by me. HSM – no way .

    • Kel says:

Ooh, now there’s an idea, Trish. The Lion King trilogy was another score from my journo days, so I might have to dig that out. I did try it a year ago and Ella lost interest, but she might be just the right age for it now!! Here’s hoping… 🙂

  7. Jackie says:

My daughter is a movie buff. Thankfully she loves classics like The wizard of Oz, Annie and Mary Poppins- so I enjoy them too.

We also try to watch as many movie/book tie ins as possibly- so that reading is still #1 priority (eg. The Lorax, Cat in the Hat, Lost and Found etc)

My hubby uses youtube clips to get her hooked on other movies too.

    • Kel says:

Mary Poppins is a big hit here too, Jackie. Hubby actually introduced Ella to that one and she just loves it. I’d love to introduce her to The Wizard of Oz and Annie too. They were favourites of mine as a child. Might have to hunt down copies of both. Thanks.
I like the idea of the tie in to books too. We are big readers here and Ella is certainly looking for more challenging books at the moment. We got through the Enid Blyton Faraway Tree series and I’d love to introduce her to another series now. There’s something in following characters through a series.
      🙂
