Letter to Santa

We did our annual visit to Santa yesterday. As predicted, Holly cowered, petrified of the big fat man in red. Ella, on the other hand, fought her way to the front.

“Have you thought about what you’re going to say when he asks you what you’d like for Christmas,’’ I said to her as we waited. She thought about it, then looked a little stressed. “Can’t think of anything?’’ I asked. “How about saying that you’d like your family to be happy and healthy’’.

She looked at me with a screwed up nose. “No, Mum. That’s silly,’’ she said. “I’ll ask him for a toy giraffe.’’ This may have had something to do with our recent visit to the Melbourne Zoo – or more likely just a random thought.

So, off she went, to ask Santa for a stuffed toy. Something we really don’t need looking at the state of her bedroom.

Half an hour later, walking through a major toy store to fit a helmet for Holly (Santa needs her measurements), Ella spots a Barbie camper van and starts jumping up and down with excitement. “I’ve found what I want, Mum. I want a camper van.’’
“But you’ve already told Santa you want a giraffe,’’ I reminded her.

After a rather sad face, yesterday afternoon was spent writing a letter to Santa.

News just in – Santa has ran out of camper vans. Or, more correctly, she already has waaaaay too many gifts for us to add another one to the pile. Now praying her memory is short.

Do your kids have their hopes pinned on a gift that’s unlikely to arrive under the tree?

OK, let’s see get into some last-minute Christmas giveaways.

  1. Elise says:

I used to get my missy to write her letter to santa in advance, and she was allowed to ask for 2 things. That way I could vet the request with plenty of time to maybe deliver on one of them!

  2. We haven’t done letters to Santa. Miss4 is easily pleased though. She just wants a bracelet and necklace, both of which are easily picked up from the local op shop for a princely sum of $2! The easiest shopping Santa has ever done!

    • Kel says:

Santa will be pleased, Laney!! I think Ella’s forgotten about what she put in that letter already! I’m thinking I won’t encourage the letter next year though! 😉

  3. Miss C loves writing her letter to Santa but doesn’t really remember the next day what she asked for, lol. This year was the first time she wasn’t scared of Santa at the shops and she asked Santa for Shoes, lol. Must have totally forgotten about the hundreds of other things she has seen and said “Can Santa give me that?”

    • Kel says:

I think Ella’s forgotten already too, Kym!!
The whole pressure of having to think up something on the spot is just too much for them. LOL! 🙂

  4. We’ve never really done the Letter to Santa thing – thankfully. I just listen to their chatter and pick up on things they like that way. It also stems the unreal expectations 🙂

What Ella wants changes so much, Caz. It’s crazy! To be honest, she’ll just be happy if there’s something under the tree. The day is so full on with family-orientated things here, that the girls never really sit down to look at their gifts properly until the next day. By which stage, they can’t remember what Santa bought them and what Auntie So and So bought. They get far too much!
I’m thinking getting rid of the Santa letter might be a good idea next year!! 😉

  5. That’s so cute. Dora is to young to have wished for Santa yet but I am sure I used to over wish as a child. 🙂

    • Kel says:

Oh, didn’t we all, Kaz. LOL! I know the girls will be happy with whatever they get. That’s the beauty of them being so young! 🙂
