  • NEWS: Kidman was present during surrogate birth

A USUALLY reserved Nicole Kidman becomes emotional on 60 Minutes this Sunday when she reveals how she was present during the surrogate birth of her second child.

Faith Margaret, who was born in Nashville on December 28, is the second child for Kidman and country superstar Keith Urban.

Usually not one to care much for Kidman, during this interview with Karl Stefanovic she captures my heart.

In a sneak peek on Ninemsn, she talks about how the birth was “so deeply emotional and moving”. “Having given birth … and then seeing my child being born this way — the love I felt for our surrogate… I get emotional just talking about it because I am so grateful to her.”

As Kidman begins to cry, you can’t help the tears welling in your own eyes. As parents, the most precious thing in the world are our children, no matter how they came into this world.

When Princess Ella puts her arms around me at bedtime and says: “I love you, mum” or Baby Holly brushes her li’l mouth against my cheek and I smell that sweet baby morning breath, I’m grateful for every moment I have with them.

Kidman’s comments remind us to appreciate the wonderful things we’re given in life – no matter how they came to us.

Kidman and Urban have a biological child, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, born in 2008.

For the full interview watch 60 Minutes at 7.30pm on Sunday night.

So, what moment each day do you cherish most with your child? Is it something they do first thing in the morning, an unexpected moment throughout the day or cuddling up together before bedtime? Let us know.

  • NEWS: Jessica Alba announces pregnancy via Facebook

FORGET Twitter. American film actress Jessica Alba used social media site Facebook to announce she’s pregnant with her second child today.

Her first child, daughter Honor, was born in 2008 to hubby Cash Warren.

    Alba wrote on her site:

“It’s been a while since I’ve been on FB & I thought I’d drop by to let you all in on some exciting news. Honor is going to be a Big Sister! Cash and I are thrilled and wanted to share the news directly with you so you didn’t hear about it somewhere else. I appreciated all of the love and support you all gave me during my first pregnancy and will definitely appreciate it again this time around. Have a great day! Jess.”

Now you can’t say all that on Twitter, can you?

Although, when someone says they want to “share the news directly” with you, it’s usually not through Facebook.

  • Zucchini slice recipe

    Zucchini slice recipe

TEN years ago you never would have thought the meat-loving bloke in The Shed would cook up a zucchini slice, let alone actually grow the zucchinis himself.

But he did. Plus, he even grew the onions and garlic that’s featured in the recipe too. Frugal, or what?

This is one of the easiest ways to get veggies into Princess Ella.

    INGREDIENTS:

¼ cup vegetable oil, plus tablespoon for frying

    1 large onion

    200g bacon

    2 cloves garlic, crushed

    5 eggs

    1 cup self raising flour

    375g zucchini, grated

    ½ teaspoon curry powder

    1 cup grated cheddar cheese

    METHOD:

Prehead oven to 170C. Grease and line a 30x20cm tin.

Finely chop the onion and bacon, then lightly fry with the garlic.

Beat the eggs in a bowl until combined, then add flour and beat until smooth. Add zucchini, cheese, curry powder, oil and fried bacon and onion. Stir. Pour into prepared tin and bake in the oven for about 30 minutes.

TIP: For extra veggies, you could add corn, carrots and/or peas.

  • Cathy Freeman is pregnant

OLYMPIC gold medallist Cathy Freeman has announced she’s pregnant with her first child.
Such news usually only rates a brief mention in our household, except for the fact this time hubby Julian (the bloke in The Shed) feels a particular connection to the former athlete.
The Three Li’l Princesses’ resident daddy blogger was just metres from Freeman during her gold medal win at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and still gets goosebumps when he remembers the moment she crossed the finish line.
The pregnancy news also pricked our attention because, despite being an elite athlete, she’s admitted to New Idea she isn’t immune from health challenges.
Freeman’s pregnancy has triggered type 2 diabetes, which she will need to manage with insulin throughout the nine months.
There is a chance the condition may disappear once the baby is born.
“It came as a jolt at first. Being an elite athlete I was really healthy, and I was really fit – I was one of the fittest women in the world. And then all of a sudden your body is disappointing you, in a way. And it’s like your pride gets hurt,” she told the mag.
Freeman, who is married to funds manager James Murch, admitted to being “totally overwhelmed’’ when she first saw the ultrasound.
Just wait ‘til she first sets eyes on her newborn.
