    This week I’m grateful for:

    • Grabbing your attention with a cheeky (pardon the pun) headline. OK, it’s more than just that. This week, on the way home from childcare, Princess Ella came out with: “look Mum, the moon is following us. I think it might be coming home with us’’. We then turned a corner. “Oh dear, I think the moon has gone to someone else’s house now.’’ I shared this on Twitter and was inundated with tweets from people who admitted to thinking the same when they were a child. I’m grateful she’s pretty normal for thinking like this. Otherwise, there are a lot of crazy people out there.
    • The judges of the Mentally Sexy Dad competition selecting my hubby to be honoured in the top 5 last Sunday and interviewing him this week. I know I’ve already mentioned it, but it really is an honour. Mostly because everyone has had the chance to learn what we already knew about him. He’s a wonderful dad and fabulous husband. Don’t know how I scored that one. Must have been those sexy legs of mine. *looks down at legs* Hmm, where did they go?
    • Live puppet shows. I took the girls shopping today and stumbled upon the brilliant David Hamilton Puppet Show in the mall. Ella hasn’t yet learnt there’s a reason you don’t sit in the front row. The dog puppet stole her sunglasses (temporarily), after which she refused to take them off her face. Although, she hasn’t stopped talking about how much she loved it.

    This week I’m grateful for:

    • My husband. Despite being under a lot of pressure at work, he took a day off this week when Baby Holly and I were particularly unwell to wipe our noses and bums. Well, Holly’s bum, not mine. We love him very much. Happy Father’s Day for Sunday, darling!
    • Being able to document Princess Ella’s first year in The Advocate Newspaper and now having documented Baby Holly’s first year here on the blog. Sadly, in exactly one month and one day, she will no longer be my “Baby’’ Holly. My li’l girl is all grown up.
    • Princess Ella’s leap in her drawing skills. Yesterday I was told: “you and Dad have oval faces and Holly and I have circle faces’’. Her attention to detail in her drawing now blows me away. As long as my nose doesn’t get any longer.

The last photo taken of Baby Holly before she “did the deed''.

    This week I’m grateful for:

    • Princess Ella starting to get this bloggy thing. After drawing a picture on her Magna Doodle of her and I holding babies each (yes, questions to be asked there), she said: “look at what I just blogged, Mum?’’
    • That the fully furnished cardboard box doll house has been such a hit for her today, after battling a high temperature last night and chesty cough today. Was so lovely to see her happily playing.
    • That earlier in the week she captured a moment in time that I wouldn’t think to photograph. I’ve decline showing it here, because Baby Holly may well divorce me in years to come. However, let’s just say the grimace on Baby Holly’s face told the full story. The odour in the room only complimented that. And the reason I’m grateful? Can you imagine how much ammunition I’ll get out of that on her 21st birthday?

    This week I’m grateful for:

    • My arachnophobe husband taking care of the particularly large spider in the bathroom this week, even if it did mean there were lots of jazz hands and Tassie two-step moves from him in the process.
    • One little girl getting the giggles in the bath tonight and setting off the other one. Which, of course, then led to me getting the giggles. I love our little two-child family.
    • It’s lovely when grandparents buy the girls raffle tickets, even if the first prize is a defensive driving course and second prize a trailer load of wood.

  • Lesson for Blokes No. 2: Oh No! It’s in the genes!

Lesson for Blokes No. 2: Oh No! It’s in the genes!

    sleep
Ella as she was dressed at the beginning of the night.

LET’S put it bluntly. Princess Kel, like many other wives out there I’d suggest, has a problem making decisions.

However, it’s an affliction which only seems to affect her under certain conditions. For example, say if Kel was the President of the USA and the world was on the brink of global warfare, she’d know what to do in an instant:  She’d assess the situation, look at the button marked “NUCLEAR’’ and make the right call.

Yet, put Kel in a fashion clothing store and ask her to go wild, she’d go through the entire store three times and still be unsure of what to do (seriously, I have spent an entire day shopping with her to see Kel buy just one item). The other day, normally a perfectly rational person, I saw her completely stress out over what to wear for a picture and change her top on several occasions.

Well, it appears it runs in the family and, as a bloke in a family with three girls, I fear the path that lies ahead. Princess Ella has gotten into the habit of getting out of a bed  early in the evening, deciding her pyjamas are not appropriate attire and donning something from her “dress ups’’ box.

Last night I got to tuck Ella in and here she is sound asleep wearing pink tights and her ballet dress. I tuck my tiny dancer under the covers. At 4.30am I hear a scream from Ella’s room: “Dddddddaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadddd’’. I run to her, only to be faced with a teary ballerina saying: “I can’t sleep without my pyjamas on’’.

Despite my pleas and having woken the whole household, Princess Ella does not settle till she changes completely BACK into her PJs. God help me. Like mother, like daughter.

Do you struggle with decision making?

  • I’m grateful for tissues

    Starting school
Ella is relieved to know they will have tissues at “big school''

    This week I’m grateful for:

    • Tissues. Since Princess Ella learnt she would be starting pre-kindy later this year, she’s been obsessed with asking if they’ll have tissues. Despite reassuring her that, yes, the school has tissues, she would reignite the conversation every couple of weeks. Finally, on Tuesday, we had our interview with the principal and she got to sit and chat with the teacher. After leaving her in the room with the teacher while we toured the school, we returned to find her with a tissue in her hand. The teacher responded with: “She said she was a bit snuffly and needed a tissue.’’
    • Publicity. My Working with PR post got picked up by PRNewswire this week. Sorry, just had to share.
    • A healthy future. We don’t often listen to the radio, but coming home from childcare the other night we caught the song Marry You by Bruno Mars. Ella piped up with: “I’m going to marry Jack (not his real name).’’ Surprised, at her choice in childcare friends, I asked her if they would be living together. “Yes,’’ she said, cheerfully. “And who will do the cooking?’’ I asked. “Me’’, she said. “And what will you cook?’’ “Soup and vegetables,’’ was her response. Well, at least they’ll be eating healthy.
