WHILE Mrs Woog is on holidays, newbie bloggers are taking over the WORLD! Well, Woogsworld, at least. After raising my hand for a guest spot, I put my best pen forward – and then ran out of paper. So I scribbled something down on an old napkin.
Hey, who am I kidding? This has been more stressful than some of the toughest celebrity interviews I’ve done. And I’ve interviewed Tex Perkins under the influence. This one raised my heart rate not merely because Mrs W’s pageviews widget kept burning holes in my eyes (this morning it stands at 778,118), but also because last night some silly fool decided to hit the “update’’ button on the blog theme and threw the entire site out. Whoops!
Then there’s the little matter of “the list’’. I have a little list of my dream blogs to guest post on. Woogsworld was on that list. Of course, I never imagined it would happen. That sort of thing is only reserved for people who fold her underpants and fetch her lattes – like Sawhole.

IT STARTED with a tweeted conversation with Romina from Martyrhood. Her children had cracked open the magic kit and were going all David Copperfield on her – minus sawing women in half. That could get the carpet dirty.
It brought back memories of my childhood, torturing my cousins by making their Red Skins and Milk Bottles disappear. I even tweeted “oh, how I would have loved to watch my 12-year-old self trying to make a ball disappear under a cup”. Sadly for Romina, she’d already endured this trick a number of times by her children.
By sheer coincidence, on Christmas Day some of the O’Brien family members had put together a magic show for the rest of us. Ella even got to play the assistant, which primarily required her to stand with her hands on her hips watching the featured magician. Thankfully we didn’t have to worry about her disappearing into the back of a box or being given the straight jacket treatment inside a tank of water.
The highlight was Ella’s uncle trying to guess which coloured block was taken out of a wooden box by his niece. The fact he had to keep referring to the instructions kind of killed the magic. The O’Briens won’t be tacking this show on the road any time soon.
All this magic obviously began to rub off on Ella. While eating dinner the other night, she announces: “I have a magic trick for you all.’’ We all sit to attention, bar Li’l Holly who’s too busy showing how to magically make a sausage bake disappear. We waited with baited breath. This could be good. She’s really taken in the concept of magic through all the various tricks she’s witnessed.
“Ready?’’ she asks. We nod. Ella takes a deep breath, sits up tall and says: “Look, I can talk with my eyes closed’’.

IT’S 8pm and I’m indulging in a little glass of sav blanc to celebrate nine years of wedded bliss. Nine years? Far out. No. Don’t worry, I’m not going to lower myself to jokes about jail time. I’m a Mum, not a Dad.
Last month we took the girls to Strahan, on Tassie’s West Coast, to show them the place where we exchanged vows. Long before the wedding day, I cottoned on to the fact this was going to be a longer commitment than the one we made the day we bought the box set of Entourage. And likely not always as glamorous or fun. If I had a double chocolate brownie for every challenge we’ve had to face together, he’d be married to a very different person right now. But I wouldn’t change any of it.
Taking the princesses to Strahan was by far the highlight of my year. Standing on the balcony, overlooking the harbour with the girls, brought tears to my eyes. Princess Ella has watched our wedding video more than 50 times. She knew all the spots. Every line spoken at each spot. She also wanted to know when the wedding was going to start and if she could play the role of the flower girl this time.
My Christmases now have greater meaning because of that one perfect day. Add to that the fact The Bloke in The Shed proposed Christmas Eve and you’ll understand why I love Christmas. Even the memory of him proposing inside the Commodore, because I’d refused to get out and get sand in my shoes (talk about spoiling the moment), doesn’t spoil it. By the way, I made up for the sand in the shoes incident on our wedding day. See.
To now have two little people to help share in the joy we have for this time of year is pure bliss. I fully realise how incredibly blessed I am. I’m truly thankful.
So, happy anniversary to my Bloke in The Shed. Here’s to hitting double figures next year. x

Join us as Three Li’l Princesses hosts a Carols in the Blogger Domain Party in the palace on Saturday from 8pm. Yes, Carols doesn’t start until 8.30pm, but the delightful (OK, down right adorable) Michael Buble is on at 7pm, so there’ll be plenty of banter early. It’s a chance for those mums (and dads) who can’t get out and attend Christmas events due to family committments (ie, you’re stuck at home with the kids) to have some fruit punch and gossip in our gowns (ah, dressing gowns) and slippers (just so you know, we’re not talking Cinderella slippers, either) as we wait with baited breath for the big fat man (or Hugh Sheridan, rather).
The night will involve Christmas giveaways, silly quizzes, daggy videos, some rather ridiculous Santa photos, courtesy of The Bloke in The Shed, and a live cross to Mr Buble himself (I could possibly be using some creative license there).
