Aussie Giveaway Linkup #76: Putting on a winning face

pinata 5The pinata before it was finished…

Sometimes the girls play this game of “face paintings’’, where they use their finger to “draw’’ on each other’s faces. They paint butterflies, rainbows, puppy dogs, a Dualis Ti… Don’t ask!

Anyway… while trying to build a Wizard of Oz piñata for Ella’s birthday party, which was yesterday, the girls got bored and went off to play together. I sang out to ask what they were doing and they responded with:
    Ella: “We’re face painting, Mum.’’
    Holly: “Face paint.’’
    Me: “OK girls, that’s fine.”

Ten minutes later, when I figure I’d best check on them, here they are with pen all over each other’s faces. It’s fair to say there’s not a lot of eye makeup remover left in the bottle.

Have your children done this before? Or given themselves pen tattoos?

PS. A tutorial of the pinata is coming…

OK, enough of the losses and now onto some wins.

Aussie Giveaway Linkup #75: Playing charades

    Charades

Ella and I were playing Charades, a game she received as an early birthday present. The game has either words (the majority of which she can’t read) or pictures. She always goes for the pictures. This is a little of how the game unfolds for us.

Ella: (twirling her finger above her head)

    Me: “A helicopter?’’

    Ella: “No, Mum. Try again.’’

    Me: “Twirling hair?’’

Ella: “No, but it is something curly.

Me: “I give up. What is it?’’

    Ella: “A tree’’.

    Oh, of course. Silly me.

Do you play charades with your child? I wouldn’t recommend it with five year olds. Phew!

A loss for me and a win for Ella. OK, onto some more wins.

Aussie Giveaway Linkup #74: Laughing out loud

    ladybird

Holly was much more comfortable with the ladybird Ella had.

The Aussie Giveaway Linkup couldn’t go past sharing a funny story this week.

Friday night, the girls get to shower with their dad. It’s a big event here. Yes, and I know how sad that sounds.

This Friday, while Julian was holding Holly and washing her face under the shower, she sang out “Spider Daddy, spider’’. Julian, who hates spiders and always asks me to dispose of them, squealed out in an equally high-pitched voice: “Where?’’ She then proceeded to point to the inside of his nose.

It seems she thought his nose hairs were spiders. Looks like Julian is getting a spider trimmer for Christmas!

    OK, onto some more wins.

  • Aussie Giveaway Linkup #73: Decadent Dessert Edition

Aussie Giveaway Linkup #73: Decadent Dessert Edition

We went out for dinner last night as a special treat. Julian and I indulged in three sharing plates of pork belly, wagyu beef and scallops. We ended with two super indulgent desserts of Moo Brew Vanilla Panna Cotta with Brandy Snaps, and a Caramel Brick.

    Panna Cotta

    Caramel Brick

After their kids meals, Holly had ice cream with caramel topping and sprinkles. Ella had a pre-packaged tasteless jelly cup.

Everyone tried a little of everyone else’s dessert. Julian and I tried Holly’s mushed up ice cream, followed by Ella’s wobbly red jelly, oohing and aahhing as if it they were the most devine foodie experiences ever.

Ella, quite thoughtfully, finally piped up with: “mine is by far the best dessert here’’, looking at us with pity in her eyes. That’s kids’ tastebuds for you.

It was a win in her book.

    OK, onto some more wins.

Aussie Giveaway Linkup #72: Melbourne madness

DrawingThis photo has nothing to do with this post! Pictures of Melbourne to come.

Right now the two princesses and I are in Melbourne. Shopping. Eating good food. Drinking coffee. Well, babyccinos for the girls.

Meanwhile, the Bloke in the Shed flew home yesterday afternoon so he could take part in the Burnie Ten, Australia’s premier 10km road race. He’s been training all year for it and, stupidly, we booked a holiday right smack bang in the middle of the event.

Which would you rather be doing?

We’ll be thinking of him and barracking from across the Strait.

OK, onto the all-important Aussie Giveaway Linkup entries.

Aussie Giveaway Linkup #71: Put your dancing shoes on

I put on my dancing shoes last night and went to a cocktail party to raise funds for a little girl with cancer. So I didn’t have time to come up with something insightful, witty, entertaining or educational.

I was too busy creating this:
